Anaheim, California - The American Heart Association awarded its Basic Research Prize for 2017 to Walter J. Koch, Ph.D., of the Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, "for basic cardiovascular studies that have identified novel molecular targets for treating heart failure and advanced prospective therapy to the doorstep of clinical trials."

Anaheim, California - The American Heart Association presented one of its highest honors, the Eugene Braunwald Academic Mentorship Award, to Gary D. Webb., M.D., of the University of Cincinnati "for his extensive and successful mentoring of countless pediatric and adult cardiologists, many of whom have gone on to establish and enhance noteworthy congenital heart disease treatment programs throughout the world."

Chicago, Illinois - The operators of a Chicago-area fake debt collection scheme have been banned from the debt collection business and from selling debt portfolios under settlements with the Federal Trade Commission and the Illinois Attorney General. The settlements also require them to surrender assets totaling at least $9 million, which will be returned to consumers.
